Rename Linux folder using mv command



Configuration for GNU Linux Fedora Computer using Linux Command

 

     The mv command can be use to rename Linux Folder.  The Linux Folder or usually called Linux directory, can be rename using mv command.  The step by step example below show how to rename Linux folder/directory on Linux Fedora system.

Crate necessary directory for rename Linux folder example.

1.  Create Linux folder

Make Linux directory or Linux folder

[fedora@fedora ~]$ mkdir linux_folder

[fedora@fedora ~]$

 

2.  Verify the folder is created successfully using ls command.

List file and folder

[fedora@fedora ~]$ ls

Desktop Download Music Public Videos

Documents linux_folder Pictures Templates

[fedora@fedora ~]$

 

Rename Linux folder

   Step below show the mv command is use to rename the fodder (linux_folder) to new directory name call linux_directory.

Rename Linux folder

[fedora@fedora ~]$ mv linux_folder linux_directory

[fedora@fedora ~]$

3.  To verify the rename process successful, issue ls command as example below.

List Linux folder

[fedora@fedora ~]$ ls
